DENVER – Aug. 17, 2021 – This week, Denver International Airport (DEN) is installing additional construction walls on Level 5 near the North Security Checkpoint as part of Phase 2 of the Great Hall Project. The construction walls will allow DEN to build the new security checkpoint in the northwest corner of Level 6. The new security checkpoint will include an improved and safer security screening experience.
The North Security Checkpoint will remain open for screening during construction, but travelers can expect some changes. Here is what passengers need to know (see attached map of closures):
All of Phase 2 work will be complete in mid-2024 with the new security checkpoint opening in early 2024, providing passengers with an improved security checkpoint experience. Phase 1 is on schedule for completion by the end of 2021 which will provide new ticketing areas for United and Southwest Airlines, provide four new restrooms, and increase the useable space in the center portion of the terminal by 31,000 square feet on Levels 5 and 6.
Hensel Phelps is the contractor for both phases of the Great Hall Project. Phase 1 is currently approximately $25 million under budget. Both phases will be completed within the original $770 million budget. Since DEN regained control of the project in November 2019, the project has met every major milestone on or ahead of schedule.
The Great Hall Project will enhance security, improve operational efficiency, and increase capacity of the terminal. To sign-up for monthly updates, see project renderings and construction maps, visit the Great Hall Project page.
