MEDIA ADVISORY: DIA Reopens Terminal East Passenger Drop-Off Area More Than Eight Hours Early

Project to rebuild elevated roadways now essentially complete

DENVER, CO – August 23, 2014 – The Terminal East passenger drop-off area at Denver International Airport reopened to traffic at approximately 7:30 p.m., more than eight hours ahead of schedule. Crews closed Level 6 on the east side of Jeppesen Terminal at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 22 to allow workers to pour the final piece of concrete connecting the new elevated roadway to the Terminal East Level 6 passenger drop-off area. By midnight, crews had poured the final piece of concrete and the curing of the concrete began. Beginning at noon, Saturday, August 23 engineers began testing the concrete’s strength level. Once the concrete reached the appropriate level, crews placed roadway markings on the new bridge and reopened it to traffic.

With the opening of the new elevated roadway on Level 6 East, all of the bridges on the south side of the terminal are now in their permanent alignments. Minor traffic disruptions are possible until all finishing work is completed on the project. One lane on the Terminal East Level 6 elevated roadway will remain closed until workers complete installation of glass on the new Westin Hotel at Denver International Airport. The closure is not expected to impact traffic leaving the passenger drop-off area of Terminal East.
