DENVER – May 16, 2019 – Nearly 5.5 million passengers passed through Denver International Airport (DEN) in March 2019, rounding out the busiest first quarter in the airport’s history and setting the record as the busiest March ever at DEN.
In March 2019, DEN passenger traffic was up more than three percent over March 2018. Notably, passenger traffic numbers were affected by the nearly 2,200 flights that were cancelled during the strong winter storm that impacted airport operations on March 13 and 14.
“As we look forward to the busy summer travel season, we anticipate many more days and months of recordbreaking growth,” said Kim Day, DEN CEO. “Our airline partners continue to add routes and expand to new destinations, providing Denver residents even more opportunities to travel and do business across the country and the globe. But that also means travelers should plan to arrive early and enjoy our many restaurants and shops.”
March included brand new service to Grand Cayman on Cayman Airways, DEN’s 11th foreign flag carrier. During the month, United Airlines also added eight new routes, including seven previously unserved destinations for DEN. Overall, DEN had nonstop service to 192 total destinations in March 2019, 19 more than March 2018.
Mail, freight and express cargo operations increased six percent in March, with 52,705,665 pounds of cargo in March 2019.
