DENVER – Feb. 28, 2023 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that Denver International Airport (DEN) will receive $22 million in Federal Fiscal Year 2023 from Airport Terminal Program (ATP) grants as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding.
DEN’s grant funding will go toward the replacement of baggage handling system curbside conveyors and controls, which give passengers an expanded and more efficient curbside check in, making the check in process easier and more efficient for persons with disabilities. The new equipment will be more energy efficient than our existing equipment in use and will help lower energy usage even as the airport grows.
“In alignment with our strategic plan Vision 100, DEN remains committed to expanding prime contractor opportunities for minority businesses in underserved communities in accordance with the Biden Administration’s Executive Order 13985 (Advancing Racial Equity) and its Justice 40 provision,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington.
Per the FAA, of the nearly $1 billion in 2023 awards, approximately $509 million will be distributed to large hub airports across the country, including DEN, while the remainder will go toward medium, small and nonhub airports.
DEN’s two-year total award amount for 2022 and 2023 will be $82 million, which ranks third in ATP awards, behind Orlando International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport.
