DEN saw record passenger traffic and the launch of eight new routes in June

DENVER – August 13, 2018 – Denver International Airport (DEN) has broken another set of passenger traffic records with more than 5.9 million travelers passing through the airport in June.

The growth in the airport’s passenger traffic for the month of June is a 4.5 percent increase from 2017 and currently stands as the busiest month in DEN aviation history. It also marks the ninth consecutive month of passenger traffic increases, dating back to October 2017.

Eight new routes were inaugurated in June and three of them were new destinations for DEN: Appleton, Wisconsin (ATW) by United Airlines, Panama City, Florida (ECP) by Southwest, and Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH) by Edelweiss.

June was also a record-breaking month for international passenger traffic at DEN, with a 21 percent increase over June 2017. The increase can be attributed to the launch of the new Edelweiss route to Zurich, the first full month of service to Calgary, Canada on Frontier Airlines, and other recently inaugurated international routes.

Between January and June, more than 30.8 million travelers passed through DEN, which is the highest midyear total in Denver aviation history. This represents an increase of 4.2 percent over the first half of 2017, outpacing the growth in seat capacity of 2.2 percent over this same period.

“Denver’s booming economy and record-setting tourism numbers combined with continued air service growth have put us on track for another record-breaking year,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “We appreciate the investment of our airlines in the Denver market as they offer passengers more nonstop destinations than ever before.”

In June, 49,770,222 pounds of cargo passed through DEN, up 4.1 percent over June 2017 when the airport processed 47,814,744 pounds of cargo.
