CATS Program and Pet Relief Rooms Integral Part of Customer Experience for Travelers with Pets

DENVER – Feb. 3, 2017 – Denver International Airport (DEN) hosted its second annual Puppy Bowl. People love football, and people love puppies, so what better way to celebrate Super Bowl week than to partner with the Dumb Friends League for a fun and furry Puppy Bowl that was held on Friday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. – Noon in the center of the Jeppesen Terminal on level 5.

Staff from the Dumb Friends League were on hand to referee the Puppy Bowl and educate travelers about pet adoptions during the event.

Also on hand during the DEN Puppy Bowl were representatives from the CATS program. DEN’s Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) grew to 61 certified dogs and their volunteer handlers in 2016. The CATS stroll through airport concourses bringing smiles and joy to passengers in the airport. Passengers are always encouraged to hug them, pet and even take photos with them. Each of the CATS has his or her own trading card that includes interesting facts about them including their “pet peeves.”

In 2016, DEN opened three pet restrooms in the centers of A, B and C gates for furry travelers. The rooms are the airport’s first pet relief areas located post security. There is also a pre-security, outdoor pet relief area, located just outside door 200 on the northwest side of the Jeppesen Terminal. All pet relief areas are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
