Denver International Airport and Volaris Celebrate Five Years of Partnership

Home

DENVER – Dec. 8, 2017 – Today, Denver International Airport (DEN) and Volaris celebrated the airline’s fifth anniversary in Denver. Volaris began operating at DEN on Dec. 8, 2012 with nonstop service to Mexico City and has since expanded their air service portfolio at DEN to include nonstop flights to Guadalajara, Chihuahua and Monterrey. Five years later, Volaris has become DEN’s largest foreign-based carrier of nonstop passengers between Denver and Mexico.

“Volaris significantly stimulated market demand when they added flights from Denver to these markets, demonstrating the value of nonstop air service to unserved communities with high demand,” said airport CEO Kim Day. “We are thankful for Volaris’ commitment to DEN and our passengers and look forward to our continued partnership.”

Since service began in 2012, Volaris has connected nearly 300,000 passengers on over 2,200 nonstop flights between Denver and Mexico and has carried more nonstop passengers between Denver and Mexico City than any other airline. In addition, Volaris is now the only airline to provide nonstop service to both Guadalajara and Chihuahua.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Volaris’ partnership with DEN,” said Holger Blankenstein, Chief Commercial Officer at Volaris. “At Volaris our aim is to connect friends and families by building bridges. Our excellent relationship with airports like DEN allows us to focus on the needs of our customers to ensure that they have access to the extensive route network and clean base fares that they need. We would like to thank our friends at the Denver International Airport for five years of success, and we look forward to continued growth together.”

Mexico ranks as Denver’s single largest international market by country in terms of passenger traffic, accounting for nearly 800,000 passengers annually. Data also shows that Mexico ranked as the largest international market generating inbound visitor demand to Colorado in 2016, surpassing Canada which had previously held the top position. This underscores the importance of both business and leisure visitors from Mexico to Colorado, and the significant impact they have on enhancing the local economy.
