DENVER – March 27, 2018 – After serving nearly 61.4 million passengers in 2017, Denver International Airport (DEN) has reclaimed the spot for the fifth busiest airport in the United States. This distinction comes on the heels of being voted the “Best Regional Airport: North America” by travelers, according to the prestigious 2018 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Through Skytrax, DEN received several other honors, including:
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are voted on by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. The awards are based on 13.73 million airport survey questionnaires completed by 100 different nationalities of airline customers during the survey period. The survey operated from August 2017 to February 2018, covering 550 airports worldwide and evaluating traveler experiences across different airport service and product key performance indicators — from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate. The World Airport Awards are a global benchmark of airport excellence.
The accolades for DEN follow a record-setting 2017 where the airport experienced a 5.3 percent increase in total passenger traffic over 2016 while international passenger traffic grew 12.5 percent to an all-time high of 2.59 million international travelers.
To celebrate the achievement of reclaiming the spot as the fifth busiest airport in the United States, DEN employees were joined in a video by passengers and special guests to pass along “high fives.” Watch the video here.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $36 billion for the region annually.
