DENVER – April 28, 2022 – Today, Alaska Airlines celebrates 20 years serving Denver International Airport (DEN). The carrier inaugurated service to the Mile High City on April 28, 2002 with three daily departures to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). This summer Alaska will average seven daily departures from DEN to three destinations: SEA, Portland, Ore. (PDX) and Anchorage (ANC).
“We are extremely appreciative of Alaska Airlines’ commitment to DEN and our community over the last 20 years,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “Not only do they help connect our community to the world , but they share similar values as DEN through their commitment to diversity and equity in education. We look forward to many more years of partnership that will continue to positively impact our community.”
Alaska’s SEA hub offers Denver-originating travelers access to nearly 40 additional destinations through connecting itineraries in peak summer across the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii. Alaska is also a member of the Oneworld Alliance, whose partner carriers provide service to a global network of cities from SEA.
“We’re happy to celebrate providing our guests with two decades of award-winning service at Denver International Airport,” said Brett Catlin, vice president of network and alliances at Alaska Airlines. “We continue to grow in Denver, including with new flights to Anchorage and Portland over the past two years. As new infrastructure at the airport comes online, we look forward to potential opportunities in the years ahead.”
Over the past 20 years, Alaska has carried more than 8.5 million passengers on its flights through DEN. In addition, Alaska Airlines holds the distinction of ranking as the top carrier capturing passenger demand between Denver and Seattle, totaling over four million travelers since 2002, as well as between Denver and the State of Alaska, totaling 1.5 million travelers over this period.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $36 billion for the region annually.
